It's reconditioned, and that's not a bad thing, everything works and everything is there, but... I've bought a few reconditioned tools and this is the first that has gone back to the retailer. The show stopping issue for me was tolerances of the slide action. The only thing a biscuit cutter needs to do well is make slots EXACTLY in the same place and it won't. Clearly the reconditioning process involves greasing the slides, but they didn't check for wear. As these have pot metal bases that slide against pot metal slides they'll wear over time. Not a fault of a reconditioned tool, a fault of a less expensive design. hardened slides would be nice. If you're doing exact work, this may or may not fit the bill, the alternatives that have tighter tolerances are in the $700 range, so a case of you get what you pay for and should pay for what you need. In the end I picked up a new PC biscuit cutter that seemed a bit tighter, and tight enough if I use exactly the same pressure and body action each time. Price surprisingly was exactly the same as it was on sale. (Posted on 10/22/10)
