The DeWalt DW872 14-Inch Multi-Cutter Saw has the largest capacity in its class — 5-3/16-inches round and 6-1/2-inches x 4-1/2-inches rectangular — for capabilities not even deep-cut portable band saws can live up to. The DW872 has a 15-amp, 4-horsepower motor can reach speeds of 1,300 RPM with more overload capacity and faster cutting than any other chop saw.
This Multi-Cutter Saw is also equipped with the most efficient vertical clamp in the industry, which encourages productivity by increasing accuracy. Besides its strong performance abilities, the DW872 is designed ergonomically with its horizontal handle, so this Saw is easy and comfortable to use — even for extended lengths of time.

We are a General Contractor, specializing in commercial construction. We fabricate a lot of steel and have always paid others for this work. We will now be able to fabricate most of the steel needed in house for our projects. This saw cuts through steel with ease. The blade provided with the saw is great. The guys in the field are shocked at how well this works while cutting up to 3/8" angle, tube steel, and even plate materials. I am sure they will find it's limits. The shop foreman even built a table with rollers to make this saw even more productive. Awesome Saw! (Posted on 2/23/11)

I've only made a dozen or so cuts, but they were into high strength steel. The DW872 went through them like butter.
I've used many grinders in the past, but never an abrasive wheel chop saw, so I can't directly compare. However, I can say that the finished edge is accurate, razor sharp, cool, and, more importantly, not discolored (as with a grinder).
All of the effort of cutting metal is reduced with this machine; it's closer to woodworking. In fact, this machine is an impressive amplifier of human capability and you begin to appreciate it the minute you try to do something else with the material you've just cut.
Of course it's expensive (particularly for a hobbyist), and there are cheaper ways to get the job done. But, if you want a lightning fast, clean and accurate way to cut metal, it's worth every penny.
One word of warning though - it is louder than it needs to be. The start-up is fairly linear, so the unit doesn't go flying when you hit the trigger, but once it gets spinning, no one without a one-block radius will have any doubt. Hearing protection is, to say the least, recommended. (Posted on 11/8/10)

This is a great cheap cold cut saw, we've had one in our prototype area for years and use it to cut all sorts of different sized tubing, pipe, angle and even 1/2" thick flat bar. It's close to $500 up front cost and replacement blades are much more then a typical abrasive chop saw blade but you will never beat the quality of the cut on this saw. (Posted on 8/26/11)

I'm very pleased with my saw and I cant believe how clean the cuts are. When I first used the saw to cut into a piece of 1/4" metal, it was like cutting into butter!........The price was cheaper than anybody I could fine and I check alot of companies (Posted on 10/15/10)
