DeWalt D27905 - Customer Reviews

  1. Good alternative to Fein and Festool vacuums for half the price.
    Review by Adam

In last two weeks I used it in bathroom demolition, to cut concrete and grout and to polish the stone tiles. The strongest vac. I have ever used.
On and off switch, looks like it would be easy to clog.
The power outlet accepts tools up to 5amp. 3amp. at the full suction, witch makes it practically useless.
The end of the hose broke after the first week.

  2. Similar design and features to Festool CT-22. 80% of the performance for 40% of the price. Far quieter than cheap Big Box store brands.

I currently own 3 shop vacs: This DeWalt, a Festool CT-22, and an older Ridgid model. I bought the DeWalt to take out on job sites. The DeWalt is very similar to the Festool in overall design: Variable speed motor, quiet, good suction, auto-tool start, paper bag, large filter on the exhaust, a heavy duty (and very long) cord, large rear wheels so it won't tip over easily, etc. It ships with a small diameter hose (1.25" perhaps) and is meant for dust collection from a sander, not sucking up huge piles of woodchips...but it also accepts the standard, large size hoses from my older Ridgid vac. It's made in Italy, not China, with good materials, fit and finish.

It's much closer in performance (noise and suction) to the Festool than to my large, noisy Ridgid shop vac. The DeWalt is not as quiet as the Festool, but close, and far, far better than the Ridgid vac. The Ridgid vac moves a lot of air, so I'd say it has perhaps 15 to 20% more suction than either the Festool or Dewalt when using the large hoses....but the noise is too much to take! I now have it hooked up to my chop saw, where it works just fine.

One major flaw with the DeWalt.....the outlet on the vacuum (for you power tool) is only rated at 5 amps when the vacuum is set at the lowest level, and 3 amps at the max suction. So this limits the "auto on switching" to small hand sanders, etc. If you look carefully at the photos of the DeWalt in action, you'll notice that the larger power tools (such as the table saw) are not plugged into the vacuum, but rather into separate outlets.) The Festool will handle 10 amps at the onboard outlet, so it will accommodate larger tools....belt sanders, routers, etc. Another minor peeve on the DeWalt: No hooks for winding the cord.

Also, the filter in the DeWalt is not HEPA rated, although you can buy one for $99 ....however, between the paper bag and massive on-board filter, there's no apparent dust leakage. The DeWalt hose is far superior than the stiff plastic hoses that ship with the cheaper shop vacs, but it's not as flexible as the Festool nor anti-static.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the DeWalt vacuum. It's a surprising good machine at less than half the cost of the Festool. An excellent overall value, but not in the same league as the Festool. But for a back up unit, it more than meets my needs.

  4. Can't beat it for the money!

My company does alot of concrete grinding with 4" and 7" grinders. This vacuum will handle the dust from either grinder with ease. I have done a lot of research on a lot of vacuums and you simply can't find a better vaccum anywhere close to this price. And Toolking is waaaayyy cheaper than anybody else on this unit. 5. Nice, quiet, clean

This has just as much suction as my bigger Rigid wet-dry vac but is much quieter. Plus being able to plug a tool into the vac and have the vac cut on when the tool powers on is priceless. Variable suction power is also a nice touch. As with any vacuum in the shop, I'd suggest a dust extractor to put in front of this such as Rockler's Vortex. It collects 98% of my dust and debris and leaves the filter in the vacuum virtually dustless. (Posted on 1/3/12)
